DIY Easy Essential Oil Air freshener

When I started to look for natural cleaning products, I didn’t know that it was so easy to make my own air freshener. Just a few ingredients and it takes minutes to make your own safe spray.

I was so happy to find an alternative from conventional air fresheners as I wanted to get away from chemicals which can pollute the air inside your home. Did you know that artificial scents and perfumes can create allergic reactions, breathing difficulties, and even migraines?

Some ingredients in commercial air fresheners are very offensive. Benzene and formaldehyde can cause headaches and nausea. They have been linked to neurological damage and cancer. Chemical dispersants like phythalates can cause hormonal and reproductive issues, birth defects and developmental disorders.

That’s why many of us are looking for safe alternatives.

When you make your own air freshener, you know exactly which ingredients you are using. They are all-natural and allow you to experience the health benefits of essential oils in addition to give you a pleasant smell. Using essential oils can provide respiratory disinfection, decongestant and provide psychological benefits such as stress relief, calming, energizing, or improving focus.

When selecting your essential oils, it is important to choose pure and natural ones. Always check the label and ask your doctor if you’re not sure if they’re ok for you to use.

Each type of essential oils has its own smell and potential health benefits :

Peppermint : boost energy and aid digestion

Lavender : antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, treat anxiety

Sandalwood : calm nerves and help with focus

Bergamot : reduce anxiety and improve skin conditions

Rose : improve mood and reduce stress

Chamomile : improve mood and relaxation

Ylang-Ylang : treat headaches, nausea and skin conditions

Tea Tree : fight infections and boost immunity

Jasmine : treat depression and help childbirth

Lemon : help digestion, mood and treat headaches

Here is an easy recipe of a homemade air freshener. It takes me only 10 minutes to make this recipe.

Ingredients :

Distilled water : 1½ - 2 cups

Baking soda : 1 tablespoon

5 to 6 drops of your favorite essential oil

Choose your favorite essential oil. Lavender for a calming effect lemon or orange for an energy boost, mint or eucalyptus for a clean, fresh scent.

You can also use a fragrant combination. For example : orange, sandalwood and clove essential oil; or tea tree, eucalyptus and lemon.

Preparation:

In a small bowl, stir together the baking soda and essential oils.

Transfer the mix to a spray bottle and then fill the remainder of the spray bottle with water.

Shake until the baking soda has dissolved.

Use the air freshener around your home whenever you want.
